Chica is a sweet, gentle senior girl who was abandoned at a gas station and left to fend for herself. Despite everything she's been through, she remains soft, trusting, and full of love.
Her Story
In 2024, we found Chica abandoned at a gas station near the hotel where we stay during our rescue missions in Ceará. We began feeding her day and night, hoping someone would come for her. A gas station attendant told us her owner had returned once but said she never stayed home — so he gave up on her.
But we know the truth. Dogs don't run away from love. Chica wasn't leaving home — she was leaving hunger. She wandered in search of food because no one was feeding her.
Chica has no teeth left in her upper jaw and had several old ulcers that had healed on their own by the time we found her. One eye is cloudy, but she can still see well enough to navigate her world. Most recently, we discovered she has a full rupture of her cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) — the canine equivalent of a torn knee ligament — and needs surgery to walk without pain.
