When we began renting the first half of our current property, Valentine was living there. He belonged to the former owner and had endured years of suffering in the brutal Brazilian sport known as vaquejada. Pushed far beyond his limits, Valentine sustained severe leg injuries, injuries that remain visibly evident to this day, especially around his knees. The trauma from that cruelty is etched into his body.
Despite his pain, he was continuously ridden and used. It broke our hearts. So when we took over the property, we insisted that Valentine, and his companion pony named Mel, remain with us, where they’d never be exploited again.
Valentine has never been ridden a single day under our care. He now lives freely among our horse herd, surrounded by love, peace, and the dignity he always deserved.
